José Alberto Hernández Chanona (He/Him)
Program Manager, Latin America
Very early on, as a young professional, I knew I wanted to get myself out of the box and join a multi-disciplinary work environment. In my quest to build a career outside my veterinary medicine background, I started to work on social impact issues such as gender-based violence, sustainable development, and anti-corruption. I was convinced I wanted to follow that path for the rest of my life. After being a volunteer for international organizations, an NGO member, and working for the private and public sectors on social issues, early in 2020, I found the opportunity of a lifetime to join this amazing organization. This was exactly the shift that I was looking for!
I am currently the Program Manager for Latin America at RE!NSTITUTE. I support the daily needs of the LatAm team on logistics, administration, and program management. I also serve as a contact point in Mexico and LatAm for org-wide operations.
What I love about my role is that in this organization, every voice matters. In my specific case, my job is not in the field, but I am contributing to it even if I am not working directly with the communities. That's how I feel that every piece of the organization contributes to positively impacting the world. What I love about RE!NSTITUTE is that we live our values day by day. This is not something that we can only read on paper, but you can actually feel it and experience it in every action. Also, trying to make things different inside the organization and “out there” inspires me and reminds me that change is possible when we are open and enthusiastic.
I consider myself a very social person, so I enjoy hanging out with friends and family in my free time. I always enjoy a good coffee with a great conversation. I am also a hopeless wanderer, so I will always take any chance to travel and explore new places.
