Whether it’s supporting the activities in our Latin America program with the criminal justice system, adding to the efforts for mainstreaming the equity focus in our internal policies and our delivery, or holding myself accountable to my co-workers and the organization's culture, every day, I learn something new.
I understand that the deconstruction process is an everyday task. Nine years ago, I decided to put on gender glasses. Joining the gender conversation has led me to reflect on my actual role in this fight and be aware of my position as a male. I acknowledge that this is not about me. It will never be. However, I embrace the responsibility that I carry with me just for being a man, the one that forces me to contribute to the solution, as we, men, have historically been a central part of the issue.
It’s with this in mind that I will continue to learn and build on my work and participate at the NGO CSW67 Forum in NYC the week of March 5-11 in partnership with the Youth Leaders and Young Professionals network of the NGO CSW/NY and as a Women Have Wings grantee. The sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women is a great opportunity for representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all over the world to come together and make a difference.
I am thrilled to have been selected along with four other young professionals from around the world to have a place in the review process of the global gender agenda while being able to connect with other peers and learn about their impact.
