Biography

Aye Aye Thwin is a global health and development expert with over 30 years of long-term
resident experience in South and Southeast Asia. She is committed to advancing
RE!INSTITUTE’s results-focused mission enabling social change through collaboration and
learning across a broad range of stakeholders. A former member of the Senior Foreign Service
at the United States Agency for International Development, Dr Thwin has led global health
policy development and served as the Director of Learning, Evaluation and Research. Prior to
joining federal service, she was in academia, and also held senior level positions with the World
Health Organization, and the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ). A medical doctor
with a doctorate in health economics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public
Health, she has published peer-reviewed papers on health policy reform; and has received
numerous honors including the Presidential Rank Award for top performing senior executives
across the federal government. Her two children, Tara and Tashi, share her love for food and
travel, and keen enthusiasm for farmers’ markets and street food festivals all over the world.

What brought you to RE!NSTITUTE?

The commitment to take on critical social issues such as homelessness and health equity, justice reform, and gender-based violence, bringing stakeholders at the frontlines to collaborate for results and sustained outcomes through organizational learning and development.

What is your current role?

Board member, supporting efforts to promote exchange between international and domestic programs.

What do you love about your role and about RE!NSTITUTE?

To be involved in efforts addressing complex development challenges in the United States and globally; RE!NSTITUTE'S unique skills and methodologies are advancing collaboration, learning, and adapting among partnering institutions for sustainable social change.

Where will we find you in your free time?

Usually immersed in some travel and/or culinary pursuits exploring neighborhood farmers' markets and food festivals at home and abroad
